I realized that I actually take quite a lot of "road trips," so maybe I should blog about that a little more. That way, if any of you are looking for things to do/roads to drive on... you can get some ideas.
This weekend, I drove about 140 miles roundtrip and explored parts of Marin County.
The Drive: The road is smooth and curvy... with many banked corners. The turns are pretty light, so you can probably go 50-60 there, no problem.
There were some slowpokes along the way that kind of pissed me off though.
Slower traffic should let people past. :-p
Destination:Tomales Bay Oysters Co.
Tomales Bay is a beautiful little town about 45 (est.) miles northwest of San Francisco. There isn't a lot of "civilization" up there, but there are plenty of state parks, light houses, and hiking/biking trails along the way. The view is absolutely incredible and it changes as you drive. I drove through a couple of forests, I drove atop mountains (with sweeping ocean views, cliffs, etc), I drove down below... along the beautiful shoreline.
We bought a bag of 50 "small" oysters for $41. This is super cheap, considering the fact you'd normally pay anywhere from $1-3 per oyster at a restaurant. And since we're getting it straight from the FARM... it's SUPER fresh.
We did have to shuck it ourselves. But we came prepared with an oyster knife:
We had a BBQ... in a wide open area next to the water.
It was quite beautiful.
